DATRI proudly participated in the Terry Fox Run 2024, an event that aligns closely with our mission to fight against life-threatening blood cancer and blood disorders. Organized annually by the Terry Fox Foundation to raise awareness and funds for cancer research, this run has gained popularity each year, attracting more participants committed to the cause.

At this year’s event, DATRI set up a stall to spread awareness about blood stem cell donation and register potential donors. Our dedicated team members, representing various departments, were on-site as early as 5:00 A.M. to engage with attendees. We were joined by DATRI volunteers who helped us to engage with the public about our lifesaving work. We also had our ex-employee, Dhivyaa Ranganathan who participated in the 6 kilometers run. The interest in DATRI’s lifesaving mission was overwhelming, and we successfully registered 111 potential donors.

The event also provided a special platform for DATRI to share the inspiring story of Nivaz, a donor who registered at the Terry Fox Run in 2018. Identified as a match for a patient suffering from blood cancer, Nivaz donated his blood stem cells in June of this year. His commitment to saving lives, despite the demands of pursuing a Ph.D. at Anna University, is truly commendable. Both DATRI and the Terry Fox representatives honored Nivaz for his selfless act.

The Terry Fox Run 2024 was a valuable opportunity for DATRI to amplify our impact and draw more individuals to our lifesaving work. We are optimistic that those who registered at the run will become potential lifesavers in the future.

About DATRI:

DATRI Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry, a not-for-profit organisation, has facilitated more than 1401 Blood Stem Cell Donations to date. The journey began in the year 2009 to find unrelated matched donors for patients with leukaemia, Thalassemia or blood disorders whose life is dependent on an unrelated donor to survive. DATRI, India’s largest Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry, has more than 5,59,517 donors registered. DATRI is working towards creating a wide and diverse database of potential Blood Stem Cell Donors that can be accessed by any patient living anywhere in the world in need of a Blood Stem Cell Donation. Any healthy individual between the age of 18 years to 50 years can register as a blood stem cell donor with DATRI and potentially become a lifesaver when they’re found to be a match for a fatal blood disorder patient.
