Story #46 of 50 days, 50 Stories Campaign
——————————————————————————————————————————————————————
In 2013, a blood stem cell donors registration camp was organized by DATRI with the villagers of Kunghar (Patan district, Gujarat). Professor Dr. Rakeshbhai Patel of Chemistry, from Sheth M.N. Science College, too had registered along with others.
A year later, in November 2014, Rakeshbhai, visited Kunghar, again, this time with the NSS team of his college for village development work. During the camp Rakeshbhai received a call from DATRI, informing him that he has been found to be a match. His instant reaction was, “I have brought students to help the society and here I get the news to serve the society.” Being someone who likes to serve society and knowing that the patient was critical, Rakeshbhai rushed to Ahmedabad for the master health check-up. His family showed immense support towards his life-saving donation.
Post donation, students, colleagues, and villagers were curious to know about his donation experience. Rakeshbhai explained how such a simple act can save the lives of people suffering from blood cancer, thalassemia, etc. His students Nirav Patel and Mehul Patel along with Hardakbhai Patel from the computer department and the villagers showed interest in volunteering for the cause.
Witnessing the positive response, Rakeshbhai organized a blood stem cell donor registration camp in his college. More than 100 volunteers registered in this camp. Interestingly, from this camp, Lecturer Deep Joshi and Laboratory Assistant Ashwinbhai Thakor were found to be a match for 2 patients. Rakeshbhai helped in counseling them. Rakeshbhai was felicitated by DATRI and ’42 Gam Leuva Patidar Samaj’ for his sincere involvement and selfless service.
