First of all, I would like to thank DATRI for giving me this fantastic opportunity to showcase my talent and provide insight into their specialized medical support of arranging Donors to revive fatal blood-disordered patients. My father briefed me about the process of donating Blood Stem Cells, how a Donor is identified based on the patient’s ethnicity, etc.
The moment I heard about World Marrow Donors Day (WMDD) event from my father and that DATRI was also going to be a part of this, I was delighted when I was asked if I could help by making a song, “Thank you, Donors.” I was super excited as I always wanted to contribute something to these remarkable Donors. I decided to go all out and create a song of jubilation to praise our Donors as Lifesavers.
Initially, it was difficult for me to write a song as I only knew how to write poems (which I have written a few times) but never thought of writing a song before. So, my father asked me to feel like a Donor and a Patient undergoing those painful moments and then the moment of triumph after receiving a new life, and this helped me to think along the same lines and write the song. The next task was to identify a suitable tune and compose music accordingly.
Being just a beginner as a keyboard player, it was a daunting task for me to play the musical chords professionally, but I managed to play a few notes. We approached a musical group to support us. I was thrilled to play the keyboard and in a few days, we were on the verge of completing the song. Unfortunately, I was unwell for two straight days in pain, but then I thought of the donors who also take pain to donate smilingly. Hence, I had to be headstrong, and no matter what, I wanted to sing and play the keyboard.
Finally, when the day arrived for the recording, I was excited and nervous as I had never been to a studio recording room before, this was a special moment and a new experience for me. So, first, we recorded the music, and then the song was to be recorded. Being unwell, I was doubtful whether I could still sing, but my mother boosted my confidence and asked me to go ahead with a smile and do my best.
“Thank you, Donors” is a praise-worthy song dedicated to our Donors and has a positive message to inspire people to become donors and join the mission to Gift a life!
