WHAT IS WMDD?

    The World Marrow Donor Day is observed to thank donors worldwide who have stepped up to selflessly help patients in need of a stem cell transplant. It is a day to show our appreciation to unrelated donors, family donors, cord blood donors, donors who have already donated and donors who are on the global registry waiting to donate

    World Marrow Donor Day (WMDD) is celebrated globally on the third Saturday of September.
    This year WMDD falls on Saturday, September 17.     

    The day also gives us the opportunity to raise awareness among the public and decision-makers about being a stem cell donor and the impact of blood stem cell transplantation on patients’ lives. For many children and adults in need of a transplant we are unable to find a match within the global registry and so it is important for more potential donors to be recruited. This is especially true for patients with mixed race or from ethnic minorities

Any healthy individual between the age of 18 years to 50 years can register as a blood stem cell donor with DATRI and potentially become a lifesaver when they’re found to be a match for a patient suffering from fatal blood disorder.

    Why DATRI needs Sponsors?  Each donor HLA typing costs INR 1800. Not everyone can afford this cost. By sponsoring the HLA Typing cost you could help save someone’s life. Your donation is eligible for 50% tax exemption under Section 80G of Income Tax Act. You will receive your receipts along with 80G Certificate within 10 business days from the date of donation.

    DATRI Celebrates World Marrow Donor Day

    To mark the World Marrow Donor Day this year the employees at DATRI engaged in a novel way to thank all the donors who have been part of the mission to save lives through Blood Stem Cell Donation. The employees were divided into two groups and set the task of baking a cake. The “Cake-off” event saw employees churn out WMDA themed cake.

    For this special day DATRI invited three Blood Stem Donors who judged the winners of the “Cake-off event”. The donors shared their experiences and how as a donor this act had touched their lives. They promised to continue to encourage people to come forward and volunteer be a Blood Stem Donor.
