On World Cancer Day, take a pledge with DATRI, India’s largest Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry, to step forward and register with us. Many patients with blood cancer and blood-related disorders cannot survive without a lifesaving Blood Stem Cell Donation. We live in a diverse country, where ethnicity plays a vital role. DATRI has registered more than 4.6 lakh potential blood stem cell donors. However, this does not count even one per cent of our entire population. We need many more potential donors to register to find our genetic twin. Only one in a million can be a perfect match to save a life!
Today the country is only seeing a steep rise in all the cancer-related cases reported and diagnosed each day. Every patient detected with Cancer never imagines falling prey to an illness they must have never expected. Then begins a race against time to learn the best possible treatment to breathe more days and survive.
Akib is a two-and-a-half-years-old, still a baby! As misfortune would have it, he has been diagnosed with Thalassemia Major. He is the youngest of three children. His father is a driver, and his mother is a homemaker. Akib’s father and Akib make a round trip of 100kms to get Akib a blood transfusion every two weeks. Sadly, he needs blood transfusions every 15 days, failing which he runs a high fever.
His father is the sole earning member, finds it very difficult to run the family and take care of Akib‘s regular transfusions. A Blood Stem Cell Transplant will help him survive and lead a near-normal life, but unfortunately, he has not found a matching donor. And time is running out for this child!
This is just one such story from the many who approach us for a blood stem cell transplant. We at DATRI are immensely grateful for all the donations you have so generously given to us together with others in the past. Together with Blood Cancer patients and children suffering from Thalassemia, we created awareness and motivated people to register as donors. Thank you again on behalf of the DATRI Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry.
DATRI now presents you with another opportunity to help recruit more Blood Stem Cell Donors. While we appreciate you for being aware and reaching out, more work still has to be done; raising more donors to save more lives. Together, we are stronger, and together we are able. And together, we can recruit more donors who can potentially save a life suffering from Blood Cancer or Thalassemia.
About DATRI:
DATRI Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry, a not-for-profit organisation, has facilitated more than 900 blood stem cell donations. The journey began in the year 2009 to find unrelated matched donors for patients with leukaemia or blood disorders whose life is dependent on an unrelated donor to survive. DATRI, India’s largest Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry, has more than 4,66,927 donors registered. Any healthy individual between 18 years to 50 years can register as a blood stem cell donor with DATRI and potentially become a lifesaver when they’re found to be a match for a fatal blood disorder patient.
