Life is precious, and we desire to see that each person who comes to us is given a fair chance to live a healthy, wholesome life. We believe that we will be able to provide hope and the gift of life with the help of benevolent donors and a matched Blood Stem cell donor.

Pradeepan Kaveri is a 29-year young lady from Sri Lanka who has been diagnosed with Aplastic anemia. It was during her pregnancy that she went through various health problems. Initially, she was diagnosed with dengue and a urinary tract infection and recovered from them. However, as she entered her sixth month of pregnancy, her platelet count dropped, and on biopsy, it was found that she had Aplastic anemia. It was at this stage that she had to terminate her pregnancy. She has had ATG injections and blood transfusions which did not work for her.

For Kaveri, an athlete and part of the Sri Lankan Navy, this is like a rude shock. She has lost her baby, and now there is a threat to her life unless acted upon immediately.  Due to the severity, she underwent blood transfusions, but the increase was only 1 or 2 pints every month, and it was excruciating with side effects. She couldn’t find a suitable blood stem cell donor, and also, it was very tough for Kaveri to raise financial support and the need was huge. Also, because of the pandemic, she could not find a suitable blood stem cell donor. Doctors suggested that they continue with blood transfusion till the pandemic ends.

“I belong to a low-income family. My mother struggled all her life to take care of my siblings with her tiny earnings from a small business and me. We have no relatives who can help us both from my side and my husband’s side. I need a matching donor to live” Laments Kaveri all forlorn and sad.

India’s largest blood stem cell donors’ registry, DATRI, has also started an online campaign to motivate more youth to come forward for stem cell donation. DATRI believes that this is an opportune time to encourage youngsters for humanity. Hopefully, this will help Kaveri find a match for herself and give a new lease of life for many others suffering from life-threatening fatal blood disorders like Blood Cancer, Thalassemia, and Leukemia, Aplastic Anaemia Sickle Cell Anaemia, etc.

During this pandemic situation, the other diseases do not stop. Patients suffering from blood-related disorders such as blood cancer, aplastic anemia need immediate treatment. Only through your support, they get a second life.
